100% Detonation Crust

A Brief History [ ↑ ]

Edward The Great - Rest In Peace First and foremost: SSYNTAXX IS NOT A BAND, IT IS A RECORDING PROJECT ONLY. WE WRITE SONGS AND RECORD THEM - THAT'S ALL.

The idea popped in my head sometime in 2021 while I was still drumming for my previous band FxPxA (RIP). We were doing melodic street punk at the time, and I wanted to do something crusty. So I started writing songs on the computer.

The first group of songs were written in pure midi using a tracker software called Renoise. These were meant to be just for reference only. My goal was to have a bunch of songs written, find some new people to start a band with, and then go from there. Unfortunately I never found anyone local to jam with, so I decided to release what I had as a pure "solo project".

After some unwanted publicity with Nuclear Manic Glorious Noize, I decided to up my game with how I write songs and record. I had a friend help me set up my DI interface and show me some basics in Reaper to get me switched over and started. My first attempt was a re-recording of "Our Fate We Make" from the Nuclear Maniac Glorious Noize demo. It turned out alright I suppose.

Next up was my first real test, a new EP with new software. This is where the "A•N•G•E•R" EP comes into play. This EP was a HUGE disappointment to me in the end... I had such higher hopes for it. That's how life goes I guess. After that flop of a release (still only supported officially on bandcamp by 1 other person besides myself), I took a break... Then a bunch of bad shit happened in my life, I lost Edward The Great (RIP), my father, my job, my best friend, and I decided to start writing again in November of 2024. I ended up writing 17 songs for a new album that is currently still unreleased.

In the fall of 2025 Nate from Detroit's UPRISING joined up to be my dedicated vocalist, and my friend Jonne has joined to help me shape the noize. He was an OG supporter since the Nuclear Maniac era of the project.

Questions & Answers - submitted/answered by 'The Void' [ ↑ ]

HEY YOU - YEAH YOU, YOU WANNA PLAY DRUMS FOR THIS PROJECT? HIT ME UP. - Send me a DM on the facebook page if you can handle pretty much straight d-beat styled drumming.

Why the spelling? - A nod of respect to SSYNDROM from Sacramento, California. Actually, this project probably wouldn't even exist if it weren't for me hearing "History Hysteria". That EP kinda of lit my fuse in all the right ways. As far as the rest of the spelling, well I couldn't handle there only being 1 X character since there are 2 S characters, so that's where the 2nd X came into play.

.. And for the record We are:
- 100% ANTI-FASCIST
- 100% ANTI-NAZI
- PRO-LGBTQ
- ANTI-NUCLEAR
- ANTI-AI
- PRO VOLUME KNOBS AT 11

Why the name? - I'm a failed website developer and have been since 1998. I mean I could have probably been a successful website developer if I only lived in a different location in the USA, and knew the right people, and had the right mentors... but I didn't. I did it all mostly the DIY way. Took me a lot longer to learn things than my friends, but it was always super fulfilling to me regardless. I find stress -and- peace in coding... Anyways, the syntax of computer languages is what I've always been into. So yeah, there you go.

What is "Detonation Crust" - A nod to DECEIVING SOCIETY here. Well straight jacked, really... (they do it better) It's a mix of d-beat, traditional crust punk, noize, and industrial - all mixed together in hopes that it sounds like a musical version of an extreme detonation.

What albums were recorded with Renoise? - Nuclear Maniac Glorious Noize, Our Cries For Peace Fall On Deaf Ears, The Detonation Collection

What software do you use now? - Reaper for the DAW
- Guitar Rig 6 for the ampilfier simulators
- GetGoodDrums Aggressive Drum library.
- Renoise (for piano / ambient pieces)

What DI interface do you use? - TonePort UX2

What are your views of Artificial Intelligence? - Na... I've watched the Terminator series way too many times to buddy up to this nightmare. But I won't lie, I ask Google AI javascript questions quite a bit... shame on me for being an idiot...

Biggest Influences? - Not that you asked, but I like talking about it... there are many - but these bands are at the top of the list: Crass, Discharge, Antisect, Societic Death Slaughter, AXIOM, DOOM, Summon The Crows, Nausea, World Burns To Death, Severed Head Of State, Tragedy, His Hero Is Gone, From Ashes Rise, Framtid, Zoe, Rat Bastards, At The Gates, Skitsystem, Nasum, Disarm (Brasil), Flux Of Pink Indians, Warsore, Atrocious Madness, Personkrets 3:1, Evil (Poland), Iron Maiden, Queensryche, Black Flag, Def Leppard, Thin Lizzy, Steppenwolf, The Antics (RIP)... and SSYNDROM.
